The year 2019 was the first full year of operation after the hotel and restaurant divisions were merged into one division, with 297 full-time positions at the end of the year. The division is responsible for the operation of two hotels and four restaurants in the area, as well as operating the staff canteen. Emphasis is on hiring professionals and the division is in good collaboration with the Caesar Ritz Colleges in Switzerland and Zadkine Hospitality College in the Netherlands. The division has also had a very good and close collaboration with the Hotel and Food School at Kópavogur College for many years.
Moss Restaurant
Moss Restaurant’s first year of operation was in 2019, and this was also the first year the hotel and restaurant divisions were merged into one, with 297 full-time positions at the end of the year. An emphasis has been placed on hiring professionals and the division has good-standing relationships with the Cesar Ritz Colleges in Switzerland and Zadkine Hospitality College in the Netherlands. The division has also had a very good and close collaboration with the Hotel and Food School at Kópavogur College for many years.
Lava Restaurant
Lava Restaurant is very popular among Blue Lagoon guests as well as guests of the Retreat Hotel and Silica Hotel. Sales went well in 2019 despite having fewer guests in the Lagoon compared to previous years. An emphasis is placed on aligning good and efficient service to groups and individuals with the quality of ingredients and simplicity guided by the principles of cooking. The restaurant is one of the most productive in the country and served a record high of 900 guests in one day. The site received 151,000 visitors last year, including the millionth visitor since its inception. Lava Restaurant continued to receive great reviews and feedback from guests and food enthusiasts.
Spa Restaurant
The Spa Restaurant is specifically intended for Retreat Spa guests and Retreat Hotel guests. An emphasis is placed on fresh and wholesome dishes made from quality ingredients and is thus known for its seasonal and healthy dining experience. The Spa Restaurant also provides breakfast for hotel guests at the Retreat Hotel and refreshments in the hotel’s lobby.
Blue Café
Blue Café serves fresh, light dishes, drinks, and refreshments. Operations went well in 2019 although the decrease in guests had some impact on sales. All dishes at Blue Café are prepared in a cold kitchen on site. Blue Café also runs the ever-popular Blue Lagoon Bar, where guests can enjoy a light refreshment in the Lagoon.
