Shops

“In the Blue Lagoon shops our primary emphasis is on guest experience with outstanding service.

Shops in Svartsengi, Leifur Eiríksson Terminal and at Laugavegur

The operations at the Blue Lagoon Shops were quite successful in 2019 with the highest profit since the shops opened, and sales increasing by 6% from the previous year.

The main focus of the Shops continues to be maximizing guest experience with outstanding service. The Blue Lagoon Shop in Svartsengi was redesigned, and retail took over the operation of shopping areas at Retreat Spa, Retreat Hotel, and Silica Hotel in 2019. There was also a significant increase in sales in these areas during the year. An emphasis was placed on interdisciplinary training, where employees of other business units received training on Blue Lagoon’s Skin Care products from shop staff.

An emphasis was also placed on reducing the number of suppliers and simplifying product offerings in our Shops during the year, and collaborations were made with select Icelandic designers on the production of specially branded products under the Blue Lagoon brand.

In November 2019, a new product, Algae Bioactive Concentrate, was introduced. It was well received by the Icelandic market and sales were well above the projected numbers.

“Blue Lagoon online store sales increased by 27% year-over-year.”

Online stores

Sales of Blue Lagoon Skin Care products went well overseas through online stores in Europe and in the United States. The number of orders increased by 25% from 2018 and turnover by 16%. The online stores have a number of returning customers—approximately 30%, which is considered a very good result.

In the December 2019 issue of Vogue in the United States, Blue Lagoon Shampoo was voted one of the ten best dry hair shampoos. This recognition had positive effects on the sales of the skin care products in the US market.
